As a Mental Health Nurse and Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) I have always remained passionate about supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties and reducing the stigma associated with mental health related challenges. This has led to me taking positions with several different types of mental health related services including the NHS, Charitable organisations and private sector providers. To ensure I remain effective as a clinician and Psychotherapist I am committed to continual professional development and enjoy the challenge learning new skills brings. Recently I became an accredited Interpersonal Psychotherapist (IPT) Practitioner. Throughout my career I have had extensive experience of supporting clients with a wide range of mental health concerns and have been involved in not only delivering direct one to one psychotherapy but also helping establish and develop psychological services.

I started my career in Adult Mental Health in 1989 working as an Occupational Therapist providing individual and group interventions in a variety of inpatient and community mental health units. I became interested in CBT and the growing evidence of its effectiveness in treating psychological problems. I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in 2011. Since then I have worked in primary care, more recently completing training in EMDR and Long Term Conditions.

I developed my love of CBT as a treatment for anxiety and depressive disorders while working in a Community Mental Health Team, when I became aware of how effective and life changing, it can be. I was able to complete the Short-Term CBT course at York university and deliver CBT in secondary care. I later moved to the local IAPT service and completed my Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Psychological Interventions. I worked in IAPT delivering CBT and later EMDR for 13 years. My passion for CBT and my commitment to ensuring it is accessible to all has remained strong.

I have a passion for Talking Therapies and have over my career worked hard to ensure Psychological Therapies are made available wherever they are needed; this has led to me working in a variety of setting from Prisons to Medical Centre’s. I have an Ma in humanistic person centered psychotherapy and Counselling and am a UKCP registered therapist with many years experience of supporting clients with a variety of different presentations. I am committed to continual professional development and most recently completed both the IAPT approved training courses in Counselling for Depression and Counselling for Couples.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am committed to helping to improve the quality of life of the people I support. I am passionate about providing the best quality therapy for people experiencing difficulties with their mental health. I have worked in many different services as a Psychologist including specialist forensic services, Specialist Learning Disability services, and Adult primary care services. I work with a variety of different therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP). I love to learn and regularly attend various courses as part of my continuing professional development and am hoping to start EMDR training at some point soon.

Prior to becoming a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, I worked in forensic service helping people integrate back into the community after a stay in a psychiatric inpatient setting. From this I began a career as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and worked in several services all over the country focusing on group work and the delivery of MH workshops. I trained as a CBT therapist after developing a keen interest in this approach and have since gaining accreditation with the BABCP focused on building my skills in supporting clients with Long-Term Health Conditions and becoming a clinical supervisor. I am very passionate about talking therapies and the ability to focus on the link between our mental and physical health, using techniques such as mindfulness and acceptance alongside CBT.

I began my career as a support worker for adults with autism and learning disabilities, later working as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist in a residential children’s home. I’m particularly passionate about perinatal mental health and supporting individuals experiencing low self-esteem, depression, and generalized anxiety disorder.

I have worked in the NHS for over 10 years in a supporting role including as an eating disorder support worker, psychological wellbeing practitioner then an accredited CBT therapist. Since qualifying as a CBT therapist, I have specialised as a GSRD therapist with Pink Therapy becoming a LGBT specialising CBT therapist. I am also a Clinical Lecturer at University of Hull across the CBT portfolio of courses. I have completed additional training in Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) including CFT-E for Eating Disorders. I have experiencing working with age 16+ clients across the UK with a range of mental health concerns. I have a specialist interest in chronic depression, offender therapy, therapy for LGBT clients and clients with eating disorders. I am also qualified in low intensity psychological interventions (PWP) and have leadership and supervision experience within that area. Outside of this I have a background in sports science and teaching. I have a passion for supporting and tailoring treatment interventions to meet the needs of patients under my care, while adhering to my regulatory bodies (BABCP) guidance on best practice. I love developing my clinical capabilities and regularly attend training and events to enhance my professional skills to better support the patients who I have the pleasure of working with.

I have worked within the field of mental health for over 15 years now. I’m proud to have made my way from a support worker to a registered nurse and have now been working as a CBT therapist for the last couple of years. I have enjoyed working with an array of different people, all with their own needs and goals. This has ranged from anxiety and depression to adjustment/acceptance of significant physical health problems and the processing of trauma. I really enjoy helping to build a person's own understanding of how their mind works and supporting them to a place where they can continue to make progress once therapy has finished.

As well as having a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, I completed the top-up module for working in this sector in 2017. I am a qualified supervisor for other counsellors within NHS Talking Therapies. I hold my professional accreditation from the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I love what I do and I’m passionate about the profession! It’s a privilege to be trusted and being part of the process of helping someone heal and process the things that happen in life. It is a creative and interesting process to learn about yourself, and my role is to facilitate a therapeutic journey which is compassionate, empathetic and curious.
